Revalidation 

Revalidation (Refresher)

one day / 6 hours - refreshes all units held 

 

Revalidation (Refresher) is a 6 hour course.

Evidence of current certificate (less than 27 months old ) must be provided or on record of learning; no units generally are credited for the revalidation course.

Foundation

What topics are covered? 6401- Provide first aid Topics covered: Methods for patient assessment and treatment for: Medical conditions such as • Heart attack • Stroke / CVA • Seizure • Diabetes (type 1 &2) • Asthma Trauma such as • Wounds • Sprains & Strains • Soft Tissue Injury • Fractures / bone injury, • Burns • Common poisons and poisoning • The contents of First Aid Kit and their use / basic dressings / bandaging & more. 6402 - Provide basic life support Topics covered: • Primary survey (DRSABCD) •Risks and hazards. • Infection control/Cross infection / blood borne pathogens (Hepatitis, H.I.V. etc.) • Accessing help in an emergency. • Basic Life Support (CPR) to NZ Resuscitation Council Standard for an Adult, Child and Infant. Safety. • Manage a foreign body airway obstruction for an Adult, Child and Infant. • A.E.D training and demonstration for adult, child and infant. • Provide first aid management for a person in shock • Manage bleeding in a life threatening situation.

2  Day/ 12 hour Course 

NZQA Units 6400 / 6401 / 6402 and/or 25459 

 

*Please note this course is for two days/ 12 hours

 

The NZ Certificate in first aid provides the same content as the foundation course, however builds on skills and knowledge gained on the first day and gives more opportunity to practice skills learnt.  It takes a minimum of 12 hours teaching and assessment but homework is also expected.

What topics are covered? You will complete units 6401, and 6402 as in the Foundation course. You will also gain unit 6400. 6400- Manage first aid in an emergency situation Assess two major injuries from •Burns- chemical or electrical •Major wounds- eg. gunshot, impalement, stabbing, crush injuries, amputations, head injuries, suspected spinal injuries, internal injuries, Assess one medical condition from: •severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), cold emergency, heat emergency
