Supervise pēpi or tamarki while they are eating their kai. Ensure adult supervision whenever/where ever your child eats- home, daycare/kohunga, or out and about
Limit distractions during kai time. Encourage a calm space for eating so that tamariki can focus on their food, without moving around too much
Avoid food in the car while travelling. Ideally the carseat should be food free, unless supervised by an adult who is not driving. You cannot perform lifesaving choking firstaid if you are driving. Choking is often silent!
Learn life saving first aid skills such as CPR and obstructed airway first aid. Know what you need to do if your child begins to choke.
