What you will learn... -Gain the confidence to act when faced with minor injuries, through to life threatening emergency situations. -Practice first aid and basic life support techniques in a safe and supportive environment -Learn valuable knowledge and skills for life
What topics are covered? 6401- Provide first aid Topics covered: Methods for patient assessment and treatment for: Medical conditions such as • Heart attack  • Stroke / CVA • Seizure • Diabetes (type 1 &2) • Asthma Trauma such as • Wounds • Sprains & Strains • Soft Tissue Injury • Fractures / bone injury, • Burns • Common poisons and poisoning • The contents of First Aid Kit and their use / basic dressings / bandaging & more. 6402 - Provide basic life support Topics covered: • Primary survey (DRSABCD) •Risks and hazards. • Infection control/Cross infection / blood borne pathogens (Hepatitis, H.I.V. etc.) • Accessing help in an emergency. • Basic Life Support (CPR) to NZ Resuscitation Council Standard for an Adult, Child and Infant. Safety. • Manage a foreign body airway obstruction for an Adult, Child and Infant. • A.E.D training and demonstration for adult, child and infant. • Provide first aid management for a person in shock • Manage bleeding in a life threatening situation.
